Covid- 19 Update
As we are in month six of the Covid-19 Pandemic, we want to thank you, the active club members for your continued support of Lakeside.
The club became an adult fitness facility this summer providing lap swimming, weight room facilities, and low impact fitness classes for our members. Pre-registration is now a requirement of our facility to stay in compliance with government mandates.
Even without the Lake portion of the facility open, our members have enjoyed our beautiful gardens, 40’ cliff walls with trees and ivy, the sunrise coming over the treetops, and sunset lowering over the historic gatehouse.
Competitive Teams Update
Due to the Pandemic, our competitive team programing has been very limited. The Masters swim team is training with limits on the number of swimmers in a practice as well as reduced training times.
The Quarry Gator swim team was not able to swim this summer. Nonetheless, our coaching staff offered weekly dryland training sessions in June and July.
The Lakeside Seahawk swim team did not train at Lakeside this summer due to lack of lane space. The team continued to train at the Mary T. Meagher Aquatic Center and rented two additional pools for their training. Head Coach Mike DeBoor worked with the Lakeside staff to host the 92nd Annual Ohio Valley Championship Swim Meet at Lakeside on August 2, 2020. Eight graduating seniors competed in this sanctioned swim meet, maintaining the OVC as the longest continuous swim meet held in the same venue! The Lakeside Tradition continues!
Registration Procedures
Lakeside opened the new registration system in June. We had a few bumps in the beginning, as with most things new in the era of the Coronavirus, but now our members are enjoying the success of the program.
In June, we established registration procedures and policies to include asking our swimming pool users to limit lap swims to three times per week. Most of you have complied. However, we have discovered from our database statistics, some of you are scheduling more than 3 sessions in a 7 day period. With over 950 users of our program, this does not allow equal opportunities for our members. If you have more than three sessions scheduled, please go to your profile, and cancel sessions.
Walk-in members are still welcome when lane space is available. In addition, if you go online and find an open lane on the day of the reservation, you will be allowed to book. As stated last month, two members of the same household are welcome to share a lane. Please, if you cannot make your session, go to your profile to cancel to allow another member to book the lane.
If we find a decline in usage, we will evaluate and change policy. Members found misusing the system, may be placing their membership in jeopardy.
Staffing Changes
Many of our staff are college and high school students or teachers. Consequently, we will be reducing our staffing procedures.
- The weight room will now be patrolled by the staff and will not have an attendant in the room during club hours. Members are asked to continue current policies to include: wearing a mask when not exercising, disinfecting equipment after use, and washing hands often. We are asking our members to report infractions or concerns to the front desk supervisor to correct behaviors and or problems as soon as possible.
- There will be two lifeguards on duty instead of 3. Therefore, we ask for your patience so we may properly disinfect the pool chairs and ladder and step handrails.
Summer Season
Lakeside will keep the outdoor lap pool open into September. Therefore, we will not close on Labor Day, September 7. Our plan is to remain open through October 2, 2020, unless weather conditions do not permit.
As the weather will be a factor of keeping the pool open, we will be changing the registration system to a 3-day time frame instead of the current 7 day time period. The date this will go into effect will be posted in the September email.
Winter Season
The facility will be closed October 3 – 23 to prepare for the winter season. Our staff will be deep cleaning the weight room, restrooms, activities room, and building the winter swimming pool structure. The weight room and fitness classes will not be available during this time.
All winter facilities will open October 24. The reservation system for the pool, weight room, and fitness programs will begin on October 17.
